Unnecessary Charity or Show of Financial Restlesness (Fedral Goverment Donates $0.5m for Guinea Bissau elections)
In a time in Nigeria when the going seems to be tough and the country in dire need of some fresh financial inputs, the unexpected has happened for reasons not known to us.
On Monday, the fedral goverment through its ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it would be offering
$500, 000 (₦180,500,000.00), over seven vehicles and 350 electoral kits
On Monday, the fedral goverment through its ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it would be offering
$500, 000 (₦180,500,000.00), over seven vehicles and 350 electoral kits
to aid a successful conduct of Guinea Bissau legislative
election, slated for November 18, 2018.
This news came as a shocker to Nigerians who have seen things dwindle as both the NLC and ASUU embarked on industrial actions over the fedral goverments inability to meet their financial demands.
However, the big question is, if the country has that much to spare it also means it has enough in its pockets to meet the demands of the citizens. So why then cough out such a whooping sum to a fellow african country when you cant pay the ₦30,000 minimum wage being demanded by the civil servants. Is this not a show of financial restleness then what possible explanations could they give. Or is the fedral goverment trying to paint a good picture of itself to the international community while neglecting its domestic responsibilities or are they giving out to expect returns someday from Gunniea Bissau which we doubt can give something in return to match that amount.
All these are unknown to citizens who cry out for help.
Come the 2019 general elections, this issue will surely be a yardstick for Nigerians in deciding whether to continue with or ditch this present goverment
